Polyethylene (PE)

Polyethylene (abbreviated PE)or polythene (IUPAC name polyethene or poly(methylene)) is the most common plastic. Polyethylenes are easy to distinguish from other plastics because they float in water. Its well-known outstanding properties are:

  • Semi-crystalline materials with excellent chemical resistance, good fatigue and wear resistance.
  • Good resistance to organic solvents, degreasing agents and electrolytic attack.
  • Higher impact strength, but lower working temperatures and tensile strengths than polypropylene.
  • Light in weight, resistant to staining and have low moisture absorption rates.

    • Many kinds of polyethylene are known such as HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE etc.
    Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

    LDPE is defined by a density range of 0.910–0.940 g/cm3.LDPE is created by free radical polymerization.

    GRADE APPLICATION
    LDPE -Film General purpose bag ,Shrink film, Zip bags, Foam, bubble sheet, shoe sole
    LDPE-Lamination/Extrusion General extrusion coating, extrusion lamination.
    For coating on different substrates; Aluminum foil, Paper, tarpaulin and flexible films (PET, OPP, Nylon)
    LDPE -Injection House wares, closure, toy parts
    Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)

    LLDPE is defined by a density range of 0.915–0.925 g/cm3.LLDPE has higher tensile strength than LDPE. LLDPE is used in packaging, particularly film for bags and sheets. Lower thickness may be used compared to LDPE. Cable covering, toys, lids, buckets, containers and pipe. Product examples range from agricultural films, saran wrap, and bubble wrap, to multilayer and composite films.

    GRADE APPLICATION
    LLDPE -Film Light Medium Duty Film, Stretch film, General purpose bag , Water-quenched film for vegetable or fruit packaging, Consumer & Industrial Liners
    LLDPE -Injection Housewares, Very thin walled food containers, Lids, Trash can, Large Industrial Containers.
    High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

    HDPE is defined by a density of greater or equal to 0.941 g/cm3. HDPE has a low degree of branching and thus low intermolecular forces and tensile strength.

    GRADE APPLICATION
    HDPE -Film Multi – wall Liners ,T-shirt & shopping bags, Trash/Garbage bag, Roll bag.
    HDPE-Blow Bottle for milk, detergent, cosmetics, lube oil and chemical; Cap for carbonated soft drink, juice, stilled water and mineral water; Ice chests and coolers , Food packaging, Pharmaceuticals,
    HDPE -Yarn Ropes & Nets, Woven Bags, Tarpaulin, Extruder & Foam Sheet etc.
    HDPE –Injection General injection parts, Household product, Office article, Bottle cap and closure, Toy, Containers , Pails
